Jamie Whitmore to speak at Feb 6 General Meeting
Jamie, a native of Sacramento, is one of XTERRA’s most successful pro’s ever with 37 career victories. Jamie also holds XTERRA USA, European and World Championship titles.
Cancer of her sciatic nerve abruptly ended her racing career. Jamie's
diagnosis, at age 31, lead to the removal of her left gluteus. This left
her without not just muscle, but without a sciatic nerve and without
full facility of her left foot because of a condition called “drop foot”
(paralysis of muscles that raise the foot at the ankle). After disabling
surgeries and the birth of her twin boys, Jamie returned to competition as a challenged athlete.
Jamie still has her unshakable faith, her will, her family's support and her bike. Since returning to competition, she has won C3 Para-cycling National titles in both road race and time trial, finished the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race in under 12 hours and has won several XTERRA off-road triathlons in the Challenged Athlete division. Her biggest accomplishment of all is winning Para Olympic gold and silver medals in Rio.
Jamie is looking forward to speaking to the Wheelmen about cycling, motivation, determination and her love of the sport. Check out her website at www.jamiewhitmore.com.
