About the Sacramento Wheelmen Bicycling Club
The Sacramento Wheelmen Bicycling Club is a nonprofit organization for recreational cycling and cycling-related activities based in Sacramento, California.
The club was formed over 35 years ago, and currently has over 550 members. Most active riding members ride between 500 and 7,000 miles a year on club sponsored rides. The majority of our Rides are for road bikes, but we also offer occasional mountain bike rides. Non-member guests are welcome on all of our rides. There are typically over fifty scheduled rides each month. Weekday rides include the popular Tuesday and Thursday Breakfast Rides (which attract 40 to 60 riders), as well as several to-and-from work commute rides. There's plenty of variety on weekend rides, with starting locations ranging from Davis on the West to the Foothills on either side of Folsom Lake to the east. Most rides are designed to offer several options for distance and degree of difficulty. There are also multi-day rides scheduled throughout California nearly every month for those that want to explore different areas.
The club annually sponsors the Sierra Century, one of the very best supported and challenging rides in Northern California. Each year, club members work to make this a pleasant and rewarding experience for over 1,000 riders.
The club prides itself on being a major resource in the Sacramento cycling community and a good friend to the community at large. We donate time, money, and labor to a number of organizations that benefit cyclists and others. Community Outreach activites include assembling and fitting bicycles for children, providing leadership and support for cycling events such as Eppie's Great Race, and others throughout the year.
