Description: Turkey Drive - Bring a frozen turkey, or money to buy one, for donation to the Sacramento Food Bank.
The Turkey Drive Ride is a legacy event for the Sacramento Wheelmen, the Sacramento Food Bank, and the Bike Hikers. Many years ago, our very own Ed Scanlan initiated the Turkey Drive Ride to feed the needy for Thanksgiving. We would ride our bikes carrying turkeys on our back, various bike bags, trailers, etc. to the Sacramento Food Bank – talk about a great photo opportunity! The number of turkeys has grown over the years to the point we usually fill a truck driven by Bike Hiker Joyce Grady to carry the turkeys. This is a great event for a good cause; feel free to donate money for a turkey if you are unable to make the event. On Thursday, November 10, we meet at 5 Points Shopping Center at 10 AM and ride to Save Mart at 56th and Folsom Blvd. (Save Mart are sponsors of the Turkey Drive) and then individually buy turkeys. If you find a special deal on a turkey(s) elsewhere feel free to bring them - we welcome turkeys from Raley’s, WinCo, Safeway, or any other source of frozen commercial turkeys.
After dropping the turkeys off at the Sacramento Food Bank we head off to Low Brau at 20th and K Street or you can go to a restaurant of your choice (or not).
This very leisurely ride is open to all comers so feel free to bring a friend.
Please wear Club Jersey!
